Brad Marchand Hits 1,000-Game Milestone for Bruins, Lightning Seize Shootout Victory

Brayden Point’s shootout goal proved decisive as the Lightning dealt the Bruins their second consecutive loss, and third in four games, on Tuesday night at TD Garden.

Despite trailing 2-0, Boston managed to claw back with goals from Charlie McAvoy and James van Riemsdyk, salvaging a point. However, in the shootout, Jake DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle, and David Pastrnak were all denied by Andrei Vasilevskiy, securing a 3-2 victory for Tampa.

The Bruins, now with a record of 32-11-10, will host the Kraken on Thursday as part of their seven-game homestand.

Despite dominating possession and outshooting the Lightning 11-6, Boston found themselves down 1-0 after the first period, marking the fourth consecutive game in which they failed to score in the opening period.

Tampa Bay took an early lead when Erik Cernak scored his first goal of the season, deflecting a shot past Linus Ullmark. Despite Boston’s efforts, Vasilevskiy stood strong in goal, denying several scoring opportunities.

The Bruins had their chances, including a power play opportunity where they managed five shots, but Vasilevskiy remained formidable.

In the second period, the Bruins found themselves shorthanded, and Tampa Bay capitalized with a goal from Nikita Kucherov, extending their lead to 2-0.

Boston fought back, narrowing the gap to one goal when McAvoy scored his eighth goal of the season with a powerful shot from the blue line.

The home team equalized during a delayed penalty, with Marchand’s shot deflecting off Vasilevskiy and van Riemsdyk capitalizing on the rebound.

However, the Bruins’ momentum was dampened when Pastrnak left the ice injured following a collision with Victor Hedman.
